About Nivra
Therapy is not about fixing people. It is about making space for understanding, healing, and growth. Nivra was created as a place where you can bring your whole story—mind, body, spirit, history, and cultural background—and be met with care, non-judgment.
Nivra takes its name from Sanskrit roots connected to calm, rest, and the release of suffering. For me, it reflects the heart of my work: creating a grounded, relational space where you can gently reconnect with yourself and move toward the life you want to live.
Why I Started This Practice
My path into counselling began long before any formal training. Like many people who arrive in a new country, I came to Canada carrying hopes, dreams, and a quiet mix of grief, loneliness, and cultural transition. I know how it feels to navigate unfamiliar systems and expectations while trying to stay connected to who you are.
I also grew up close to stories of addiction, depression, and anxiety in my family and community. Those experiences shaped my belief that healing is both personal and collective: we are deeply influenced by our relationships, histories, and the systems around us. Over time, I felt called to move away from law and toward work that allowed me to sit with people more directly in their emotional lives.
Nivra grew out of that journey. It is my way of offering a therapy space that honours complexity, embraces vulnerability, and welcomes the full humanity of each person who walks through the door.
Who I Am
I am a counsellor and psychotherapist with a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from City University of Seattle, and a BA in Law with a minor in Social Sciences. My early work in Canada began in Early Childhood Education, supporting children and caregivers in creating emotionally safe, nurturing environments. From there, my practice expanded to include youth, adults, couples, and families.
My lived experience as a Latin American, cisgender, heterosexual, spiritual-but-not-religious, LGBTQ+2S-affirming woman educated abroad informs how I show up in the therapy room. I aim to bring empathy, humility, and curiosity into each session, aware that power, privilege, and oppression shape how we all move through the world.
I am also a mother of two young children. Parenthood continues to deepen my understanding of attachment, overwhelm, and the tender work of caring for ourselves while caring for others.
How I Work
My approach is integrative and trauma-informed. Rather than using a single model, I draw from a range of counselling theories so we can meet you where you are and adapt as your needs change.
Relational & Somatic Approaches
Mindfulness-based practices to deepen self-awareness, regulate the nervous system, and support embodied healing.
Psychodynamic & Jungian Work
Exploring unconscious patterns, relational dynamics, dream exploration, and meaning-making.
Narrative Therapy
Helping you re-author your story and connect with your values and strengths.
SFBT & ACT
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for concrete, goal-oriented support.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Noticing and shifting unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours
Experiential & Creative Approaches
Play, art, and imagination in grief work and with children, giving form to feelings
Eastern & Embodied Techniques
I also integrate Eastern and embodied techniques, such as breath work,
body-based and sensorimotor practices, and full-body mindfulness.
These approaches help you tune into sensations, notice how emotions live in the body, and slowly rebuild a sense of safety and presence.
Above all, I see therapy as a collaboration. You are the expert in your own life. My role is to walk alongside you, offer tools and perspective, and support you in finding language and practices that resonate with your inner world.
Therapy for All: Values and Commitments
Nivra is grounded in the belief that everyone deserves access to compassionate, culturally responsive, trauma-informed care.
Anti-oppressive and intersectional care
I actively consider how racism, colonialism, sexism, ableism, heteronormativity, and other systems of oppression shape mental health. I work to create a space where you do not have to leave parts of your identity at the door.
Cultural humility
I do not assume expertise about cultural background, history, or experience. Instead, I aim to listen, learn, and remain open to feedback, adjusting my approach to honour context.
Sliding scale and accessibility
A sliding scale is available to help reduce financial barriers and make therapy more sustainable. My hope is to keep support within reach for those who may otherwise be excluded.
Non-judgment and transparency
I value honesty, clarity, and collaboration. We will talk openly about goals, pace, and what is or is not working, so therapy feels like something we are building together.
Honouring non-linear healing
Progress can involve setbacks, pauses, and uncertainty. There is no expectation of perfection here. The focus is on integration and growth, not on fixing you.
