Nivra Therapy – Counselling and therapy for adults, youth, and children

Children & Youth Therapy

In-person in Vancouver, or online.

Kids don’t always have the words for what they’re feeling — and that’s okay. That’s what this space is for.

Whether it’s a young child working through big emotions, a school-age kid struggling with a change at home, or a teenager under more pressure than they know how to name, therapy meets them where they are — not where a textbook says they should be.

A first language, not a translated one

For bilingual and newcomer families, sessions are available in Portuguese and Spanish — because sometimes a child or teen processes things more naturally in the language spoken at home, not the one they’ve learned to perform in at school.

What we work on together

  • Anxiety, worry, and big emotions that feel too big to manage
  • Behavioural changes — outbursts, withdrawal, or shifts that don’t seem to fit
  • School stress, social difficulties, or bullying
  • Adjusting to a big change — a move, a new sibling, separation, or loss
  • Teens navigating identity, self-esteem, or pressure from school and social life

How therapy works with kids and teens

For younger children, this often looks like play, art, or creative expression rather than sitting and talking — kids process through doing, not just discussing. For teens, sessions are more like a real conversation, built around trust and their own pace, not a script. Parents stay in the loop throughout, without every detail of a teen’s sessions being reported back — privacy matters for building real trust

Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ

What age does this start at?

Sessions are shaped for the child’s developmental stage, from young children through teens — the approach and language adjust accordingly, whether that’s play-based work or a more conversational style with older teens.

Will you tell me what my teen says in sessions?

For teens assessed as capable of understanding their own care, confidentiality works much like it would for an adult client — I won’t share session details, and I’ll flag anything involving safety directly. For younger children, we’ll talk through what level of information-sharing makes sense together, since that changes based on age and maturity.

Do you offer play therapy?

Yes, for younger children — play, art, and other creative approaches are often more natural ways for kids to process than sitting and talking directly.

Is this available online, or only in person?

Both — in-person in Vancouver, or online.
